Footwear
Things I wear on my feet, in order of preference
- nothing - the ideal, but sometimes business require me to have footwear or I'm in rough areas with lots of glass on the ground
- Xero Genesis sandals - the soles are guaranteed for 5000 miles and everything else is replaceable. I once bought some paracord from a local market to make a quick repair until I could get official parts. They don't do well in wet conditions, but there's very few places that this is actually a problem. My current pair have gone thousands of miles with just one part replacement (which was my fault)
- Cheap no-name minimalist shoes - whatever currently looks good on Amazon or eBay. Largely used to transition from winter boots into going fully barefoot. I want to phase these out. I have previously worn the more expensive brand-name versions, and whilst they do last a bit longer they haven't been worth the extra cost
- Crocs - the corporate office is the one place that requires me to wear shoes that cover the tops of my feet. I have once work my sandals here, and I got nothing but comments on how cool they looked, but it's not worth the hassle. So I wear Crocs because they're nice and wide and I'm not moving around much
- Standard walking boots - from roughly the end of October to April/May it becomes a little too cold for me to enjoy going barefoot. I do have my eyes on some minimal walking boots though, it takes a while to get used to wearing boots again each winter
